Details

Designed and built by the Interstate Aircraft Company of El Segondo, California, the S-1 Cadet was the first venture by the company into the aircraft field. The design was specifically aimed at the Civilian Pilot Training Program announced in 1939.One unusual feature was the use of high performance NACA 23012 airfoil for the wing as used on fighter aircraft of the time. Flight characteristics were honest and forgiving as would be appropriate for a trainer aircraft. Some five hundred plus Cadets were produced, of which only a handful are on the civilian registry today.
