Quick Overview

The Super Chief was flown in 1950 and 1951 by George Aldrich in the senior division. Some of the design features like the “airfoil” shaped vertical stab/rudder were later incorporated in his famous Nobler design. The design was said to be a significant improvement over the original VECO Chief kit – which was Hi Johnson’s up-grade of Bob Palmers “Go-Devel  Sr."

Specifications

Wing Span: 53 in. Wing Area: 582 sq. in. Engine: .40

Details

Biggest differences between the super Chief and the VECO Chief was that the VECO kit had a thinner airfoil and the tail feathers and flaps were 3/16 sheet. Super Chief has thicker/tapered built up surfaces to match the shape of the airfoil. Super Chief also had a bubble canopy.
