Hinges for Model Aircraft

Most airplanes require some type of hinge system for the control surfaces. With the exception of scale aircraft and some special types, the hinges you choose are entirely up to your personal preference. Please be aware that all hinges need to be aligned properly to prevent binding or other problems. Additionally, hinges must be secure and hinge lines should have as little gap as possible. Because hinging is tedious and must be done accurately, most modelers dread the job. Manufacturers prey on this and continually come up with gadgets and gizmos that promise easy, effortless and accurate hinging. It takes effort to learn how to do it properly regardless of the tools you use. Hinging is a skill that some people learn and other people stumble through time after time. Practice on scrap wood before attempting it on your model.
